SDL TMS Fundamentals

This course introduces SDL TMS for all users. It is a prerequisite for all other SDL TMS training courses. The SDL TMS Fundamentals training course demonstrates the benefits of using the enterprise-scale translation management system and covers key concepts which will be valuable to all user roles, from occasional users such as translation reviewers, to intensive power users, administrators and project managers. The course introduces the SDL TMS organization structure and how SDL TMS enables best practices in translation management, through workflows, translation memory management and sharing, terminology, user role management and file filtering. The course is also an introduction to SDL TMS navigation and user interface, an introduction to the online help system and documentation, setting personal preferences and getting started with using SDL TMS.

SDL TMS for Translators

This course prepares translators, reviewers and other linguistic experts for tasks that are assigned to them in SDL TMS, for example, accepting work, translating a file, reviewing the translation of a marketing message and communicating with the project manager and others who are working on the same job. This course includes important concepts for working in SDL TMS, including translation memories, terminology, translation QA (Quality Assurance) and making sure that a job proceeds to the next step in the workflow.

SDL TMS for Project Managers

This course moves deeper into managing jobs and their component tasks within SDL TMS. A typical SDL TMS system contain multiple file types which must be translated into many languages, with work for different audiences. This course enables project managers to work with this variety of content and workload using SDL TMS’s workflows and tools. The course covers the steps used to assign work to the right people, to make sure that workloads are balanced, to monitor progress and to take action if any troubleshooting is needed. This course is for the SDL TMS users who are involved in the day-to-day management of jobs within the SDL TMS workflows, including project managers and power users both within the customer’s own organization and in the Language Service Provider’s team if translation work is outsourced. The SDL TMS Project Manager course also introduces the concept of SDL TMS projects, which can be used to help monitor and schedule translation work.

SDL TMS for Reviewers

During this course users will learn how to work with SDL TMS as a reviewer: how users are notified that work is available, how to claim work (tasks), how to make comments or corrections. Participants will also learn to use the tools available to them through SDL TMS.

SDL TMS for Work Submitters

This course shows how to create, submit and monitor translation jobs in SDL TMS from the perspective of the business user who is requesting the translation work; and the project manager who is managing the project timeline and resources. The course also shows what to do to authorize a job – approve it for translation – once its content has been evaluated by SDL TMS and/or the project manager. For example, when you need to approve the cost prior to the content being translated.

SDL TMS for Administrators

This course enables customers to manage both the technical and business aspects of their SDL TMS system. It is intended for the people who look after the setting up, configuration and monitoring of the SDL TMS system, both at the IT and the business management level, for example IT and data center teams, and a company’s centralized globalization/translation management team and other expert users. The course begins with strategies that are important to discuss and decide on before SDL TMS is fully implemented, or during a major expansion, for example, Naming Conventions and designing the hierarchical structure of SDL TMS, before continuing to the configuration of SDL TMS.
