Forrester evaluated the strengths and weaknesses of the top 15 web content management system (CMS) products across a comprehensive set of evaluation criteria, which were grouped into three high-level buckets: current offering, strategy and market presence.
For the specific criteria in which Forrester evaluated its scoring, SDL receives a mark of 5.0 out of 5.0 for Global and Multisite Management in the “current offering" category. Forrester writes: “SDL Web 8 is ideally suited for large companies that need strong multisite and multilanguage tools to support global operations."* As SDL customers can testify, these benefits are tightly linked to SDL’s unique BluePrinting® capability.
SDL also receives the highest scoring for the Architecture criteria in the “current offering" category. According to Forrester, “The product now has a modular, component-based architecture, content intelligence, and biggest of all, architecture to run easily in the cloud and operate headless."* SDL is proud with what it believes to be the recognition of significant efforts the company has put into building a complete microservices-based and future-proof delivery environment that is open and agnostic of delivery channel.
Additionally, SDL also believes that the Forrester report recognizes SDL’s focus on total cost of ownership. It has been nearly two years since SDL has launched its Digital Experience Accelerator (DXA), with a clear focus on reducing the time and effort it takes to implement an enterprise-wide WCM solution. The Forrester report notes: “SDL also focuses on accelerators to standardize and speed up implementations."*
Forrester identifies “extensions" as solutions packaged with the WCM system, across testing and optimization, customer analytics, marketing automation, commerce application, DX portal and self-service, and customer data platforms. SDL takes a different approach, based on a best-of-breed philosophy, while being interoperable with adjacent technologies that fit into an existing enterprise IT environment. At SDL, we believe this is the best approach for enterprises, since they have already made significant investments in existing digital marketing technology. Best-of-breed vendors can provide more flexibility for the enterprise and eliminate vendor lock-in.
