SDL Connect, TAUS & LocWorld – Building up to the Big Three

October is set to be a busy month with the perfect storm of the language industry’s top events: SDL Connect, Localization World (LocWorld) and the TAUS Annual Conference. Despite all taking place within a fortnight – and across the Silicon Valley – each offers attendees something very different.

LocWorld is considered the “market bazaar" of the three, showcasing a mix of language services, tools and research, spread across a wide variety of discussions and tracks. TAUS is a more intensive, single track discussion involving industry leaders; where the tone, theme and direction of the industry is defined for the coming year.

Our own annual event, SDL Connect (Oct 25-26 in San Jose), brings customers, partners and industry peers together over the course of two days to learn about strategy and product roadmaps, and how to blend technology with human experiences.

In addition to SDL Connect, we will also have a significant presence at both TAUS (Oct 30-31 in San Jose) and LocWorld (Nov 1-3 in Santa Clara).

TAUS, MT, Security and Video

SDL will have its biggest presence ever at TAUS this year. Our CEO, Adolfo Hernandez, will join industry peers on the CEO Conversation track. One of the big themes he’s looking forward to at TAUS is Automation and Machine Learning, and how it’s revolutionizing the way language delivery can ultimately be executed. Under Adolfo’s leadership, SDL is building innovative solutions in this area, and is already working with some of the globe’s top brands on exciting ways of using MT to improve customer experiences.

SDL’s Mihai Vlad, VP of Machine Learning, will also offer insights on SDL ETS, a secure neural MT platform that helps enterprises translate high volumes of content into other languages. The technology allows companies to tackle issues like the recent Translate.com data breach, where translated documents – including contracts and termination letters – were shared across Google for anyone to find. SDL has been working with governments for years in secure MT, and we’re now extending our experience and secure on-premise machine translation for commercial use, enabling corporate IT departments to combat data security risks across the translation supply chain.

SDL’s Kathleen Bostick, EVP North America, will be hosting the conference dinner, and helping to wrap-up the event as part of the final Q&A panel.

Given the trend of video increasingly replacing text, another expected theme will be efficient video localization. SDL’s Jeffrey Constantin, an expert in this area, will speak about the major opportunities and improvements we are bringing to the table.

LocWorld

SDL is a gold sponsor for LocWorld, and SDL executives Kathleen Bostick and Mark Lawyer will be hosting key customer sessions with Dell and EMC on how they have been building a Global Content Operating Model post-merger. And GoPro will provide an overview of its globalization team and how they help ensure globally relevant product features. These are going to be fascinating and instructive discussions!

We’re lucky in our industry to have these three valuable opportunities to get together, share experiences and discuss new ideas for making “translation everywhere" a true reality. Although the three events are very different, they’re also complementary and worth attending if you can. There is something for everybody!

See you there.
