SDL Connect

Ready for SDL Connect? 5 Ways You Can Make the Most of This Year’s Event!

Taking place in just five days in Burlingame, California, this year’s SDL Connect is billed to be our biggest and best to date. More than 400 attendees are expected to join SDL’s flagship customer event, where 30+ sessions over the course of two days will equip content and translation professionals with everything they need to know to transform their content and language strategies.

If you’ve not registered, don’t panic—there’s still time (click here). But if you have, and you’re starting to think about how you’re going to make the most of your time with us, we’ve made it a little easier for you.

1. Download the SDL Connect Event App

The SDL Connect 2019 app is your go-to place to keep up-to-date on the agenda, learn about speakers, the event sponsors and connect with other event attendees. You can even connect your social channels, share your thoughts, insights, and photos with your communities. There’s also a Social Wall in the Activity Feed where you can keep track of all the incoming Twitter postings using the event’s official #SDLConnect19. And this year, for every 500 tweets posted on Twitter using the official hashtag, we will donate $500 to the SDL Foundation, making the SDL Connect conversation an even better experience! If you’re an attendee, all you need to do is download the App from Google Play or the Apple App Store, and search for “SDL events.” Once you’ve logged in, just use the event password we supplied you upon registering.

2. What's on the Agenda?

Do you want to hear from the industry’s leading thinkers? Like Carmen Simon, Founder of Memzy, who will discuss what makes content truly memorable? Or Robert Rose, Chief Strategy Officer, The Content Advisory, who will offer insights into how intelligent content delivers immersive customer experiences globally? We also have Dell’s Noel McDonagh discussing the company’s recent migration project with SDL. Other customer speakers include Eaton, Philips, and Zimmer Biomet, who will talk about how the medical company launched health monitoring app on Apple’s iWatch with SDL’s technology. And if you’d like to deep dive into a particular solution area, we have sessions on machine translation, localization and content management (and much more!). We’re also hosting sessions dedicated to managing regulated content. Whether it’s FINRA in the financial services industry or HIPAA in the insurance and medical fields, we can help you keep on top of the ever-changing rules and regulations. There’s plenty to choose from. The choice is yours! To get the best out of your time, our recommendation is to start planning your days, so take a look at the schedule and start planning.

3. Prepare to Network

SDL Connect is—according to last year’s feedback—one of the best networking opportunities for industry professionals. As one delegate explained, “It's always good to meet face-to-face with our account manager. But attending SDL Connect really gave me the chance to broaden my relationships. Everyone is open to a conversation, an invaluable opportunity for anyone with questions.” Customers overwhelmingly agreed that there was ample time to network, learn from peers and hear first-hand how different companies are approaching the same problems they face. There will be opportunities to discuss your digital transformation, customer centricity project, or simply working out how to manage the growing mountain of data and content you hold. It could just be that you’re new to the industry and keen to learn more. Plenty of time is available between sessions, at lunch and in the evenings to ensure you don’t miss out on time to learn from others. Also, don’t forget to join the SDL Tridion Sites and Tridion Docs User Groups, where you will learn best practices from your peers. You can also get to see, first hand, SDL’s language and content technologies in action through live, interactive demos. It’s a great place to see the latest features of SDL’s offerings and what’s coming on the horizon.

4. Make the Most of our Partners and Sponsors

As one of last year’s delegates explains: "SDL Connect is an excellent way to meet the ecosystem of partners all in one place, see the innovation in action and learn how to improve your own efforts through other big scale projects.” Partners including Kaleidoscope, DEPT, DCL, Content Rules, EXLRT and Acrolinx, Content Rules and Tahzoo will all be available to discuss their own unique approach to solving your particular challenges. Make sure you make the most of our partners, and how they’ve solved some of the biggest problems facing the content and language industry.

5. Logistics

Wondering how to get to the event? Or whether there will be enough charging points? Some of the things you might be asking yourself:

  • If you’re staying at the Marriot Hotel with SDL, the hotel offers free transfers to and from the airport. Just make sure you give them notice.
  • There is also onsite parking Marriot Hotel.
  • It’s best to arrive at 8am on the 9th (or 8.30am on the 10th) to give yourself plenty of time to register, and enough time to grab a breakfast before the sessions begin.
  • Don’t worry, there will be plenty of charging points (and or course free Wi-Fi)
  • But if you forget your notepad or laptop, don’t worry the presentations will be made available to everyone after the event.
  • And don’t forget to wear comfortable shoes!

Hopefully we’ve given you a few tips to help your planning, and journey to SDL Connect, as smooth and productive as possible. We’re all very excited for you to join us, and while we’re busy fine tuning the event, it’ll no doubt be worth it for everyone involved. See you next week!
