Maria Schnell enjoys solving complex problems. A skill that has served her very well in her career. "I accept every challenge as an opportunity to learn, improve, excel." She says "There has not been a single day in my professional life that has been repetitive or even remotely boring. I’ve made it a point to constantly seek roles that stretch the boundaries of what I know today."
Schnell joined SDL in 2006 and is currently VP of the Global Language Offices. "I joined SDL planning to just train my project and account management muscle for the next five years. I ended up with a remit rather more varied than originally planned." Maria quickly rose through the ranks to lead sales, pre-sales, professional services and operations for SDL's global languages offices in both regional and global roles. "While I still enjoy consulting our customers very much on how to overcome their localization challenges, the aspect I have enjoyed most was understanding operational complexities and, most notably, simplifying them. I am very proud to lead a global team that share the same personal interests as me." Leading global translation, localization engineering, DTP and testing teams across the globe has turned out to be quite an education for Maria, "It has been a pleasure spending the past 18 months, not only driving quality and efficiency throughout all teams, but pursuing this while focusing on giving team members time to do what they love most (translating). This has been outright rewarding."
