SDL, the leading provider of Global Information Management (GIM) solutions, announced today that GLOBALGAP is reducing translation review time by 30 percent with SDL Trados Server solutions.

The organization sets voluntary standards for the certification of agricultural products, (‘GAP’ is an acronym for Good Agricultural Practices) worldwide and is using the leading translation memory software product to ensure the proactive and effective management of its translation supply chain.  With SDL Trados Server solutions, the GLOBALGAP team is able to bundle translation materials to be sent up and down the translation supply chain for greater consistency and translation productivity, while each project, language, file and deadline can be efficiently managed from one unified console.

GLOBALGAP’s use of SDL Trados Server solutions means that the agricultural community in countries as diverse as the UK, France, Japan and Thailand have access to localized standards.  This means they can learn more about the certification and standards—from farm inputs like feed or seedlings to all the farming activities, before the product leaves the farm.

“SDL Trados Server solutions have made a fundamental difference to the GLOBALGAP translation supply chain, ensuring greater content consistency and accuracy and a higher throughput of content,” says Heike Anna Rauber, Translations Project Coordinator, GLOBALGAP.  “Compared with the previous process, the review time for a document is 30 percent faster using SDL Trados Server.  In some languages we work with two translators and the exchange of translation memories between them is reducing the time associated with the review process—and reducing the cost.  Today, all translations are handled by one person who coordinates the end-to-end process; while colleagues can be kept informed of the process at any stage.”

GLOBALGAP produces a large array of content, the most important of which is the documentation surrounding the GLOBALGAP standards certification process and which is subject to a three year revision cycle of continuous improvement.  It was a growing volume of information—and the need to localize the content in up to 20 languages—that led the organization to seek a more effective project management system.

GLOBALGAP deployed SDL Trados Server solutions to ensure the proactive and effective management of its translation supply chain.  The solution provides the organization with a flexible, easy-to-use project management interface, which automates the process of creating translation projects and managing them from a single desktop in Germany.  The company can structure the information the way they want to view it and ensure deadlines are met via project due dates and accurate current status displays on the dashboard.  Another useful feature for GLOBALGAP is the SDL Package technology.  This allows the team to to achieve greater efficiency for project management tasks through automation, project tracking and centralized asset and deadline management.
