SDL Trados Studio 2011 Professional

Market-leading translation software

Is your organization looking for ways to accelerate the translation process? Want to avoid unnecessary increases in cost and workload caused by translating the same content more than once?

SDL Trados Studio 2011 Professional is the ultimate desktop translation software, providing all the tools necessary to create, edit and review high quality translations in the quickest possible time.

Underpinned by SDL's leading translation memory technology, SDL software is used by over 80% of the translation supply chain and can help complete translation projects up to 40% faster*! Depending on the type of content being translated, this figure could increase further.

Accelerate

Translation memory technology, the heart of SDL Trados Studio software, ensures the quick reuse of previously translated content, enabling you to complete projects faster by never translating the same sentence twice. With Studio 2011, users also benefit from additional innovative features such as SDL PerfectMatch, AutoSuggest and QuickPlace, all of which help productivity levels soar.

Connect

Over 185,000 translation professionals use our market-leading translation software. Working with Studio 2011 means benefiting from being part of the largest translation community in the world. Built on an XML-based platform, SDL Trados Studio is enterprise ready and delivers ‘elastic scalability’. This means you have the choice of how you work with your colleagues and external suppliers. You can have desktop licenses at one end of the scale, share TMs within a small team
environment or scale up to larger solutions that can enable access to hundreds of users.

Simplify

Translation projects come in many different layouts and file formats. Thankfully Studio 2011 contains a comprehensive range of file filters, meaning it can accept a wide variety of file types, so users need not worry about compatability or layout. And with a clutter-free workspace, smart project management capabilities as well as intuitive features like Quickplace and project preparation automation, users can reduce the amount of time spent on non-essential operations and dedicate their full attention to the translation task in hand.

Deliver

SDL Trados Studio provides a comprehensive range of features, in addition to the translation memory, that allow users to deliver projects on time, every time. From terminology tools for those industry terms or brand names which need to be handled consistently every time, to cloud based automated translation that helps get new projects started, Studio provides time saving features in abundance. And there is no need to be concerned about layout, with real time preview, files can be viewed in their final layout as you translate, providing additional peace-of-mind.

*65% of translators surveyed agree that using a CAT tool allows them to work up to 40% faster.

Go beyond Studio with SDL OpenExchange

Working with reviewers who do not use Studio? Add extra flexibility to Studio 2011 with a selection of apps and plug-ins from SDL OpenExchange, including SDLXLIFF Converter - which allows translation reviews to be done entirely in MS Word.

Enhanced QA Checker

Studio's automated, real-time QA checks highlight potential translation errors including punctuation, terminology and inconsistencies.  And in Studio 2011 the new QA wizard simplifies and speeds up the review process.

Studio 2011 - more than just a product

SDL Trados Studio supports the most recognized industry standards such as XLIFF (bilingual files), TMX (translation memories) and TBX (terminology databases).

And through SDL OpenExchange every user can extend, customize and increase the functionality of SDL Trados Studio. Visit SDL OpenExchange to download the numerous applications already available or join the developer community to start creating application or integrations.

SDL Trados Studio 2011 Professional

SDL Trados Studio 2009 introduced many new elements which transformed the translation experience. Now SDL Trados Studio 2011 introduces yet another set of fantastic features to change how translation and reviews are done.

Review MadeEASY

Review documents and collaborate with other people to deliver the perfect translation is now easier than ever before. Here's why:

  • PerfectMatch 2.0 - Never review the same sentence twice! Using the bilingual file from a previously translated and approved document Studio 2011 applies PerfectMatch technology to automatically populate the target segment. This sentence is then locked, so no edit or review is needed, saving the translator and project manager even more time.
  • Track Changes - Ensure you never miss a review again with native Track Changes. Working the same way as MS Word Track Changes, this new function allows you to confidently review and easily accept or decline changes as you go.
  • Review outside Studio – Collaborate with colleagues who review your files using Microsoft Word. With SDLXLIFF, a free downloadable application from SDL OpenExchange, send MS Word files to subject matter experts for review. Word files can also be imported back into Studio, with all comments and changes still visible.
  • New Display Filters - Speed up review with the new range of display filters and focus only on the content you're interested in viewing.
  • MS Word Spell Check - Enjoy superior spell checking functionality and instantly see all errors highlighted.
  • Enhanced QA Checker – The new QA wizard speeds up review with its enhanced design. All changes are now presented in a single window, which provides a simple and convenient way to resolve any translation issues.
SDL Trados StudioEVOLVED

In addition to simplifying review cycles, Studio 2011 introduces a number of features to speed up translation tasks and improve user experience, including:

  • New File Filters - Continue to accept any project with these latest file format additions: revamped inDesign filter, OpenOffice, LibreOffice, StarOffice and IBM Lotus Symphony.
  • Bilingual Word Filter - Increase compatibility with your translation supply chain and leverage even more assets by working with old Trados Word bilingual files directly in Studio 2011.
  • Lightweight Project Management - Simplified one-file translation, with reduced project files, making it easier to exchange projects with colleagues.
  • SDL MultiTerm Widget - Access your own terminology and combine it with online references to ensure accurate authoring and translations from anywhere on your computer.
The Details ThatMATTER

SDL Trados Studio 2011 is the result of over 25 years of investment in translation software development. What makes Studio 2011 special are the great new details that all combine to deliver a unique working experience. Details such as:

  • Pseudo-translate - Quickly produce localized files and test for font display problems in a software GUI, extent of DTP work due to layout problems and the completeness of extracted text for translation etc.
  • No need for SDL Trados 2007 - Studio 2011 now offers you the ability to convert existing SDL Trados 2007 Suite translation memories to SDLTM, preview SDL Trados TTX and SDLX ITD files, convert SDL Trados TTX and SDLX ITD files back to their original format, etc.
  • Faster installation and simpler licensing - Designed to get you up and running quicker, plus you can now activate either online or offline.
  • Sleek and efficient operation - Enjoy enhanced performance with a faster than ever Studio 2011!

What is SDL Trados Studio?

SDL Trados Studio 2009 combined the best features of both Trados and SDLX in one integrated environment for all your translation, review and project management needs. SDL Trados Studio 2011 is the latest version with innovative features and a new open platform, designed to enhance translation speed and maximize efficiency throughout the translation supply chain. Studio 2011 not only further enhances the translation aspect, but completely transforms the review tasks associated with any translation project.

Why has SDL developed SDL Trados Studio?

SDL Trados Studio, is not only the best of Trados and SDLX, it is the next generation translation memory software which will revolutionize the way people work. This is the culmination of over 25 years translation software expertise and $100 million investment in R&D. Our user based survey has already reported between 20% to 30% increase in translation efficiency.

Why should I upgrade?

Upgrading to the latest version, SDL Trados Studio 2011, ensures you maintain the highest level of client compatibility as well as gaining access to a host of new features to significantly increase your translation speed, including:

  5. 25 years of filter development and over $100 million invested in R&D provides the most comprehensive framework including new filters for PDF, XML and Adobe® FrameMaker® and InDesign®, allowing you to work on even more file formats
  6. Faster project management setup and real-time quality assurance checks increase accuracy and save time
  7. SDL is committed to open standards. Studio 2011 makes extensive use of industry standards which enable easier sharing of files, TMs and termbases between tools that also support XLIFF (a file format for translation), TMX (for translation memories) and now even TBX (for terminology databases)
  8. You asked, we listened – new filter for PDF, so that you can accept a project when the original source files are not available
  9. Choose how you work with translation memories, from desktop to large enterprise, using the 'elastic scalability' of the new platform
  10. SDL OpenExchange - extend and customize SDL Trados Studio by downloading free and paid applications, integrate it with other systems or start developing your own apps.
Is SDL Trados Studio compatible with previous versions?

Yes of course! SDL Trados Studio 2011 is compatible with SDL Trados Studio 2009. Furthermore SDL Trados Studio 2011 will enable you to open TTX, ITD files and old Trados Word bilingual files as well as use translation memories from older versions of SDL Trados. It also features support for industry standards such as TMX (for translation memories), TBX (for terminology databases) and also XLIFF (as a file format for translation).

Can you save old translation memory formats within SDL Trados Studio?

You will still be able to save TTX files which can be used to update old translation memories (which is how a good majority of our users update their final TMs). You will also be able to export the new translation memory format into a TMX file format, which can then be imported into older versions of SDL Trados.

I heard that TagEditor and Word will no longer be offered as a translation environment?

When you see the new and integrated translation environment within SDL Trados, which will enable you to translate up to 20% faster*, you will be amazed!

The integrated translation environment within SDL Trados Studio is jam-packed with features that will make you translate faster, more efficiently and are easy to use:

  1. New RevleX™ translation memory engine will save you enormous amounts of time with features such as Context Match and multiple TM lookup
  2. AutoSuggest™ accelerates translation editing through ground-breaking predictive text functionality - a 'must-use' feature
  3. Real-time Preview – check the final look of your document as you translate
  4. QuickPlace™ feature allows you to quickly apply text formatting, tags, placeables and variables
  5. 25 years of filter development and over $100 million invested in R&D provides the most comprehensive framework including new filters for PDF, XML and Adobe® FrameMaker® and InDesign®, allowing you to work on even more file formats
  6. Faster project management setup and real-time quality assurance checks increase accuracy and save time
  7. SDL is committed to open standards. The new product makes extensive use of industry standards which enable easier sharing of files, TMs and termbases between tools that also support XLIFF (a file format for translation), TMX (for translation memories) and now even TBX (for terminology databases)
  8. You asked, we listened – new filter for PDF, so that you can accept a project when the original source files are not available

With new features such as these, TagEditor and the Word interface will be a thing of the past!

Additionally, we provide exciting programmes such as SDL OpenExchange and SDL Certification as well as offering a number of free educational opportunities to make the most of our software such as webinars and roadshows.

Can I work with my SDL Trados Studio Freelance license on a network?

SDL Trados Studio Freelance will work on a workgroup-based network (such as a home wireless network), but cannot be used on domain-based networks. If you wish to work on both workgroup and domain-based networks, then you will need to purchase SDL Trados Studio Professional.

A workgroup-based network (also known as a 'peer-to-peer' network) is two or more computers that are networked together. No one machine is in charge, and security and other settings have to be made on each individual computer.

A domain-based network is where networked computers (either servers or clients) have a hierarchy. Security settings are determined on the domain controllers (servers) and each machine (client) is authenticated by a server when logging on.

What are the differences between the Freelance and Professional versions?

SDL Trados Studio is available in three different versions: Starter, Freelance and Professional. The reason behind having separate versions is that freelance translators do not usually require all the functionality within the full Professional license.

The additional features in the Professional version include:

  • Ability to work on a network: Our Professional version is network enabled and can be used on a domain controlled network.
  • AutoSuggest creation: Dictionary creation with the revolutionary new AutoSuggest feature only exists within the Professional version. The Freelance version will enable translators to open and use AutoSuggest dictionaries, but they will not be able to create them unless they purchase the AutoSuggest Creator add-on.
  • Automated project preparation and distribution through SDL Package technology: Create and distribute projects with SDL Package technology - you can only open and return packages in the Freelance version.
Please note that it is possible to create projects in the Freelance version, but the SDL Package technology and customized task sequencing are available only in the Professional version.
  • Unlimited language support: Work with as many languages as you want - the Freelance version supports up to 5 languages (which are selected upon installation).
  • SDL PerfectMatch 2.0: Create PerfectMatches (in-context 100% matches) by leveraging your previously translated bilingual files. Users on the Freelance edition will be able to use PerfectMatch, but not create them.
How much does SDL Trados Studio cost?

SDL Trados Studio is now available to buy directly online. You can purchase your new license by visiting our online shop or contact us for more information.

Can I have both SDL Trados Studio and SDL Trados 2007 Suite installed on the same PC?

Yes you can install both Studio and Suite on the same PC.

What are the system requirements for SDL Trados Studio?

SDL Trados Studio supports Microsoft Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7. As a minimum requirement, we recommend a Pentium IV-based computer with 1 GB RAM and a screen resolution of 1280x1024. For optimum performance, we recommend 2 GB RAM and a more recent Pentium or compatible processor.

Please also note that you must be using SDL MultiTerm Extract 2011 to extract and add terminology to SDL MultiTerm 2011. Previous versions of SDL MultiTerm Extract will not work with SDL MultiTerm 2011.

* 80% of translators surveyed agree that SDL Trados Studio allows translators to work up to 20% faster than previous versions of SDL Trados.
