SDL International®, a leading provider of globalization products and services, today unveiled SDLinsight, an advanced localization environment for Windows® resource scripts and 32-bit Windows executables.

SDLinsight features sophisticated editing and management of Windows resource files, taking the complexity out of handling, distributing, tracking, localizing and updating files. Now, project managers, software engineers, translators and QA specialists can use SDLinsight's integrated environment to gather comprehensive project statistics, assess the complexity of a file's resources using SDLinsight's unique complexity metrics, create and prepare project files in an intuitive manner, perform a range of localization QA checks on either the source or target language files, and localize all common resources in context-rich – yet easy to use – resource editors.

"Companies looking to global markets for continued growth and success must contend with increasing time and competitive pressures," stated Mark Lancaster, chairman and CEO of SDL International. "SDLinsight helps tear down one of the most arduous and time-consuming barriers to international markets – the localization process. The integrated SDLinsight environment facilitates cost-effective localization, maximizes product quality and speeds time to market – providing unparalleled competitive advantages in the global marketplace."

Key Features and Benefits

SDLinsight allows a localization coordinator or translator to translate Windows resource scripts and 32-bit Windows executable files, leverage translations and coordinates from previous versions, and localize common resources in a safe and context-rich manner. Users can also resize dialogs and regenerate localized versions of the files to drop back into the product or build environment.

The main features of SDLinsight include:

Robust resource script and Win32 executable file parsers. Users have the option of localizing at the binary level, resource script level, or a combination of both levels. SDLinsight does not require a full resource build kit to parse resource scripts.
Users can leverage from previous SDLinsight projects, standard or custom glossary formats, or even "on the fly" from previous versions of the source and target language files.
Context sensitivity allows you to specify that translations are only taken from resources of the same types, e.g., only leverage translations of menu items into menu items.
Comprehensive project statistics and metrics provide standard raw word counts as well as enable users to categorize the complexity of dialog and menu resources and assess the level of dynamic positioning of user interface (UI) elements.
Comprehensive resource editing facilities provide context-rich and intuitive editors for all common resource types. The dialog editor has a full range of layout and alignment tools for resizing and an easy-to-use grid for a text view of a dialog resource.
Users can set maximum lengths for all string types; the editors display the length of the source language item and dynamically update the length of target language items - enforcing any maximum length settings.
Users can run extensive static QA checks on the source or target language files, and a range of comparison checks between source and target language files.
