SDL International partners with Obtree Technologies

- delivers Web content for multilingual audiences

SDL Maidenhead , United Kingdom
lundi 18 février 2002

SDL International, a leading provider of multilingual and globalization solutions to international enterprises, today announced a partnership with Obtree Technologies UK Ltd, the leading European provider of Content Management Systems (CMS) to offer customers savings of up to 50% in Web site maintenance costs and up to 90% in site redesign.

The partnership will combine SDL's first-class 'SDLWebFlow'® specialist multilingual Workflow and Translation Memory software, with Obtree's leading content management system, enabling businesses to compete on a global level by automatically translating and adapting web site content to any global region in the local language.

Obtree's Dynamic Publishing process saves and retrieves web content as separate 'objects' - such as text, photographs, and Web links - not as whole pages. This provides substantial benefits in content re-use and multi-channel capability compared to most other CMS products. Authoring responsibility moves from the Webmaster, to designated employees, empowering them to manage their company's Web site. Users require no programming or specific application skills so that anyone with basic keyboard and PC skills can add content quickly, easily and securely to company Web sites, Intranets, Extranets.

SDLWebflow® is a unique workflow system which automates the processes involved in updating multilingual content of Intranets, Extranets and Web sites. The system is developed in a modular architecture, facilitating upgrades and adaptations requested from the original language site.

SDLWebFlow® offers integration with SDL International's Enterprise Translation Server, enabling real-time translations and increasing the cost-effectiveness and breadth of user applications. Real-time translation provides a "gisted" draft-quality translation that is ideal for obtaining a general understanding of foreign language text. SDLWebFlow® supports integrated multilingual applications such as corporate intranets, extranets and portals and enables global companies to have the fastest, most effective multilingual Content Management solution currently available.

Paul Heaslip, Sales Director of Obtree UK, said: "In an age where globalisation is much of the business community's common goal, multilingual Content Management is an essential component of international business operations. The service we can offer in conjunction with SDL enables companies to tailor their Web sites to provide localised Web content - imperative for organisations which want to grow their business outside their country of origin."

SDL's Group Marketing Director, Hedley Rees-Evans, said: "This partnership has grown from the market demand to automatically re-produce Web site content to any global region, in their local language. In fact, the Obtree C3 product and our SDLWebflow® suite work so well together we are now using it in house ourselves. SDL's customers will also benefit from a suite of additional tools to fully manage the content of their host language sites and hence deliver seamless multilingual versions."
