SDL, the leading provider of Global Information Management (GIM) solutions today announced that IFS has selected SDL Knowledge-based Translation System™ (SDL KbTS™) as a solution for improving the efficiency of providing multilingual content to global markets.

IFS, one of the world’s leading providers of component-based business software, uses SDL Knowledge-based Translation System, to manage the process of translating large volumes of content contained in their ERP modules - in a wide range of areas including ordering, finance, business performance, document management and human resources. With SDL’s substantial experience in providing high-quality automated translation to its customers, IFS was confident that SDL would be able to deliver the content faster and more cost effectively.

Prior to adopting SDL’s solution, IFS had a variety of vendors and a fragmented process for storing translation memory. They had very large help files of over two million words to translate. With an update cycle requiring simultaneous shipment into nine languages and no localization team, it was not a small task to provide content to global customers.

“We have been delighted with the results from using SDL Knowledge-based Translation System” said Henrik Rosén, Director Methods & Quality at IFS.  “We are delivering high-quality multilingual content with significant improvements in efficiency and time, whilst reducing overall costs. One of the added benefits of using automated translation is that the process delivers consistent content across the languages into which it translates. This is because the system always translates the terms that are built into its dictionaries the same way, every time and this is very important as part of our strategy to serve and support our global customers.”

“One of the key criteria for IFS was that multilingual content be of consistent and publishable quality", said Keith Mills, president of technology at SDL. ”SDL KbTS intelligently combines automated translation software with linguistic skills, delivering up to three times the throughput of traditional methods and providing high-quality output automated translation. SDL’s continued provision over the last four years, of high-quality content to its global customers is a testament to the power of its integrated process.”
