SDL, the leading provider of Global Information Management (GIM) solutions, announced today that National Instruments was able to launch a software release simultaneously in markets around the world using SDL TRADOS® technology.

National Instruments is transforming the way engineers and scientists deploy systems for measurement, automation and embedded applications. SDL Trados Desktop solutions have helped to eliminate the four months delay that previously existed while content associated with the firm’s graphical system design software NI LabVIEW was localized. It was the equivalent of 1.5 million words delivered simultaneously in five languages in addition to English. Moreover, by centralizing all previously translated content into a virtual multilingual repository and reusing it across the organization, more than 70 percent of National Instrument’s new content is matched against previous content—accelerating further the provision of high-quality, consistent local content.

“Delivering product to market is a complex process—in particular, ensuring the simultaneous shipment of local language versions of each solution,” says Michel Farhi-Chevillard, Localization Group Manager for National Instruments. “SDL Trados provides a critical role in this process through the localization of our hardware and software products, the delivery of training materials and product literature and the localization of http://www.ni.com, including our knowledge base. This best practice approach to Global Information Management helps to ensure National Instruments remains competitive by bringing solutions to market in the shortest possible time.”

National Instruments LabVIEW off-the-shelf software and modular cost-effective hardware is marketed to a broad base of more than 25,000 different companies worldwide. The company currently localizes many of its products into five languages and its website into eight languages.

The company’s in-house team of about 40 translators and localization engineers has used SDL Trados Desktop Solutions for almost 10 years to ensure the optimal quality of localized content output and reduced costs.  Compatible with a wide range of programs used by National Instruments to create content, this world-leading translation memory solution captures and stores all previous translations within the translation memory and reuses these so that the same sentence never has to be translated twice. As a result, the company is accelerating project completion, ensuring consistency and quality within translations, accelerating the localization process and reducing the overall cost of translations.

As part of this unified SDL Trados Technologies solution, National Instruments is using SDL PerfectMatch® to distinguish between in-context and out-of-context 100% sentence matches, to ensure that 100% matches are within context before they are applied to the translation project. This eliminates hours of review time, so that the localization professionals can save time and reduce costs. The Global Information Management solution also comprises a source-controlled version of SDL MultiTerm® suitable for the desktop environment for easy entry, management and retrieval of terminology. SDL MultiTerm automatically populates the company’s translations with approved terminology, as well as storing rules regarding usage, to ensure National Instruments achieves high levels of consistency and quality.
