SDL, the leading provider of Global Information Management (GIM) solutions, today announced that Atlas Copco has adopted the SDL global web content management solution. The off-the-shelf integrated solution of the SDL Tridion® R5 web content management system and the SDL Translation Management System™ (SDL TMS™), allows global web content to be created and maintained in one seamless integrated platform.

SDL TMS is being used to translate web content (over 250,000 words) into 13 languages. This includes seven core languages plus Brazilian, Norwegian, Polish, Japanese, Korean and Dutch – saving Atlas Copco an average of 40 man-hours per web page in translation time.

“Our website is essential to the success of our business and brand, like any other global company,” said Olivia Gambin, web communications manager at Atlas Copco.  “The translation supply chain is extremely complex, involving a lifecycle of authoring, storage, translation and publication. But by connecting SDL Tridion R5 with SDL TMS – and creating a central ‘language repository’ where we store previously translated material for re-use – we are now able to manage the process much more efficiently.”

Previously, Atlas Copco relied on local resources to translate, review and publish local content. Managing the translation process was time consuming, requiring multiple people to carry out each task for individual local language versions. Publishing one page of web content into a single local language would typically take over 3 hours.

By using SDL Translation Management System integrated to SDL Tridion R5 to automate the localization and publishing process the time needed to publish web content has been dramatically reduced, allowing Atlas Copco to deliver web content in their required 13 languages much faster, with less administrative overhead  and at a much reduced cost.

“Having high quality global websites aimed at a local audience can make or break a global brand,” said Dr. Chris Boorman, Chief Marketing Officer for SDL. “Some of Atlas Copco’s local customer centers have limited or no resources available to manage and translate web content. The SDL system provides an invaluable local online presence which otherwise simply wouldn’t be there.”
