SDL International, a leader in the emerging market for global information management (GIM) solutions, announced today that GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) has awarded SDL a contract worth over £300,000 for technology and consulting services to implement simultaneous multilingual product submissions to the European Medicines Agency (EMEA).

GSK expects to see significant business advantages by reducing the time necessary to pass the EMEA regulatory process through the deployment of the SDL GIM solution. A key decision factor was SDL’s ability to support and enhance the process of creating content compliant with EMEA’s XML-based product information (PIM) standard and adapting the XML content to the European Union’s 20 languages.

The SDL GIM solution, including SDL TeamWorks, will be used to optimize and automate the translation processes across the 20 European Union languages. GSK will leverage SDL’s centralized translation memory to maximize reuse of previously translated content, with SDL TeamWorks’ collaborative workflow capabilities providing efficient translation change management during the revision cycles with the regulator. SDL enterprise consulting services will integrate Arbortext technologies for authoring and Documentum CMS for the XML product information into the unified GIM solution.

“GSK is leading the industry in adoption of the new PIM standard,” commented Stephen R Hasler, Vice President Operations and Systems, Europe and International Regulatory Affairs at GlaxoSmithKline. “SDL has demonstrated thorough understanding of the technical and business issues involved and we anticipate significant time-to-market advantages once this new solution is implemented.”

“SDL’s expertise in multilingual XML content management and domain knowledge of the life sciences industry will enable us to rapidly implement the new integrated GIM solution for GSK,” said Phil Gilbert, Life Sciences Industry Director at SDL. “Our management of authoring, translation and publishing processes will guarantee quality standards, speed up product submissions and improve the profitability of new products.”
