Business pressures on Information Engineering led the NetApp management team to the decision that the company needed a new approach to replace its redundant and lengthy documentation process.  The challenges the department faced are all-too-familiar.  Growth in the number and versions of products the company produces required a significant growth in the amount of feature-related content needed, as well as the need for specialized documentation types.

NetApp began their migration to a more more modular, structured environment by selecting DITA as their standard for structuring technical information and defining content components.  Recognizing that they needed a system to also manage the variations of all components and the relationship with one another, they chose a specialized form of content management called a Component Content Management (CCM) system.  Read this Gilbane Group case study to learn how NetApp has been able to meet faster product release schedules, develop more variations of product content, and tailor those deliverables to the interests and background of their customers.
