SDL LiveContent S1000D Supports Complex Systems in the Field

SDL LiveContent for S1000D is an interactive delivery solution that provides advanced distribution and viewing of XML content for Land, Sea and Air systems.

SDL LiveContent was recognized by KMWorld as a trend-setting product for 2009, the fourth year in a row that a product from the team at SDL Structured Content Technologies has received this recognition.

Why choose SDL LiveContent? It represents a new, dynamic publishing paradigm - one that surpasses the older, static approach to delivering service and diagnostic information to those who use it in mission critical repair or maintenance tasks. SDL LiveContent's dynamic approach enables you to deliver content targeted to the physical environment that your personnel are in and the engineering change level they are working with.

The dynamic quality of LiveContent is why we call it "live." It carries the full richness of the mark-up of XML content, right up to the moment the content is requested - and only then does it pull out the relevant content and tailor it to the skill level of the user. It is an IETM or IETP that is robust enough to support the most complex aerospace or defense system.

SDL LiveContent S1000D fully mines your information value, and delivers that value to the field. Here's how:

  • Living XML Content. SDL LiveContent's lightweight, high-performance, native XML database keeps your technical content in XML form until the instant it is accessed, when it is then formatted, filtered, and delivered to the person requesting it. This means that the information your field personnel receive is always relevant to the job or task at hand. The path from request to delivery is short, cost-effective and fully automated.
  • Automatic Incremental Updates. SDL LiveContent ensures content is current, complete, and above all, accurate. It makes changes available as they occur. Only the changed topics are affected and the update packets can be pushed to the user if he or she is connected to the Web, or pulled when the user returns to the network after a period of being away.
  • Ability to Support any XML DTD or Schema. Because SDL LiveContent supports S1000D and can work well with any XML DTD or Schema, you are not locked into a particular content form or standard, and can even support multiple XML structures simultaneously within the same publication, integrating different schemas into your information products.
  • Create Improved Technical Content. SDL LiveContent can give you insight into what topics are most used and those that are seldom used or never accessed. It can also provide a feedback loop by which users can report errors, identify difficult instructions, suggest other topics, or propose different approaches that would make their jobs easier. The absence of such a feedback loop has been a challenge to publishers of maintenance and support information for decades.
  • A Platform Built on Standards. SDL LiveContent uses the family of XML technologies and universally available Web tools. Because LiveContent's technology is mainstream, you'll never have difficulty finding capable and affordable staff to support your publishing workflow.

...With more than a quarter-century's commitment to client success, SDL Structured Content Technologies enables you to keep pace with your business' rapidly advancing delivery and intelligent content needs.

SDL LiveContent S1000D 5.0

SDL LiveContent S1000D 5.0 expands IETP delivery capabilities with iPad support, in response to customer demands for flexible, mobile access to critical content.

This new release also offers the ability to suspend and resume IETP sessions in context. This allows one user to start a procedure and another to finish it or allows a user to suspend a procedure while waiting for a replacement part, for example. This provides increased flexibility for the maintainer and improved cross-shift management and support.

Other feature enhancements include enhanced Process Data Module support offering greater guidance and S1000D compliance and additional multimedia compatibility to support a wider variety of movie, video, sound and multi-media file types.

Live Content also now offers full support for viewing and interacting with 3D data via integration with Right Hemisphere’s Deep View plug-in. Deep View is a class leading viewing technology that allows companies to easily use and deploy 3D data throughout their organizations. The integration between SDL LiveContent and Deep View is completely transparent to users, providing them instant access to pre-arranged views or animations. The integration also provides a simple way for users to interact with Illustrated Parts Data. 3D assemblies contain completely accurate representations of each individual part. Technical Illustrators can take advantage of these representations and dramatically reduce the number of hand created technical illustrations, which saves considerable time and provides a superior illustration to the user. Deep View enables users the ability to easily rotate, zoom, explode or cutaway the product assembly or individual part. Deep view can be downloaded from www.righthemisphere.com and deployed for free.

Using a robust web interface built on the AJAX communications model, SDL LiveContent provides the nonlinear, intelligent navigation required of an interactive, intelligent delivery solution.

  • Ability to run as a stand-alone application in offline environments or serve as a web application in networked environments• User–driven, dialog-based troubleshooting provides usability in tech doc for all skill levels
  • System simulation support for up-front analysis of sub-systems in different states
  • Filtering based on applicability, user profiles or runtime preferences
  • Support for a variety of standards including S1000D and DITA
  • Drillable images/schematics and locator graphics provide technicians with graphical means to navigate through complex product hierarchies
  • Rich media support for a wide variety of formats, including CGM,SVG, JPEG, Flash, AVI, PNG, MPEG, Right Hemisphere and other graphic formats
  • Incremental updates allow distribution of only the content that has changed, keeping content current
  • Animations and simulations provide just-in-time training, enabling inexperienced technicians to tackle expert tasks
  • High degree of interactivity with the content reduces look-up times and produces faster results
  • Integration with parts inventory, ordering and other engineering systems can drive part sales while reducing the time required for maintenance and repair
  • Device-independent delivery provides support for laptops, tablets, PDAs, cell phones and other emerging devices – as well as traditional channels
  • Open API eases integration with logistics support and other systems
  • Integrated reporting enables users to easily identify content errors from within SDL LiveContent providing the opportunity to improve content
