Unique BluePrint management functionality convinces government of strength of Tridion’s WCM solution.

The Belgian Federal Government Service for ICT (Fedict – Belgische Federale Overheidsdienst voor ICT) has selected Tridion’s WCM solution for the new federal portal, Belgium.be. The present portal will be thoroughly refreshed and the updating process for the new portal will be modular. The project is subdivided in several basic parts. For each part the government issued a public tender and through a competitive bid process, Fedict chose Tridion.

In the portal’s redesign process the multilingual character of Belgium forms an extra challenge. Belgian linguistic legislation orders that each citizen has a right to consult Internet sites of the government in his or her own language: French, Dutch or German. In addition to the country’s three official languages, the portal Belgium.be also offers an English version. Being able to support the various sites in multiple languages was a critical factor in the selection process.

In this project partners IBM, Amplexor and Tridion joined together. Tridion supplies the WCM technology, IBM and Amplexor deliver the services. The consortium IBM-Amplexor-Tridion was selected for the Content Management System thanks to Tridion R5. By the end of October 2007 the Tridion platform will form the basis for the renewed portal.

The new Web Content Management System must integrate the content of the existing institutional sites (more than 1000 sites in the whole of Belgium, of which 200 are federal sites), into the new portal. Provant.be, the portal of the Province of Antwerp that was also built by Tridion and Amplexor, was an excellent reference.

“With the new Web Content Management System we hope to implement a solution that will offer Fedict more flexibility in the field of management and future expansion.” says Tom Heiremans, Project Manager E-Government of Fedict. “We hope that by delivering a more intuitive and user-friendly interface for managing the publication of governmental information, we will increase the user satisfaction of people who visit our Web sites.”

"If there is one country where Tridion can prove the strength of its platform, it’s Belgium", says Ronny Kenens, Director Tridion Belgium. “Thanks to Tridion’s unique BluePrint management functionality the government can centralise work and in multiple languages. We are delighted that the Belgian government has chosen Tridion through our partners IBM and Amplexor”.
