SDL Knowledge-based Translation represents a breakthrough in the translation process itself. Terminology extraction, including key phrases, is automated through SDL PhraseFinder. The translated terms and phrases are used by SDL Enterprise Translation Server, which draws on this terminology knowledge base to enhance the quality of the automated translations.
SDL Translation Management System manages the entire SDL Knowledge-based Translation System process, first matching source texts against translation memory, and then using SDL Enterprise Translation Server to automate the remaining translation. Post-editing and quality review is all that is required to complete the translation.
Translated text is saved in the master Translation Memory and the master dictionary is also updated with any new terms and phrases, enhancing the knowledge base for future translations to reduce the amount of post-editing required.
SDL KbTS is built to use open standards such as TMX and XML, ensuring your investment in software, services and translation assets is fully protected.

Many of us have our own disaster stories of experiences with automated (or machine) translation. Automated translation is being used today by global brands who do not want to sacrifice quality and consistency in order to improve efficiencies. What they are using is a powerful combination of translation automation technology, automated (or machine) translation and human skills - combining the best of both worlds of people and machines.
Large organizations require high-quality, low-cost and fast-turnaround translations of high volumes of content. This paper looks at the requirements for knowledge-based translation and details the solution provided by SDL to address the particular needs of customers today.

The unique SDL Knowledge-based Translation System TM delivers a breakthrough in translation quality and throughput. All the leading language translation technologies are tightly integrated together and combined with specialist linguistic skills.
