Specifically designed to be used with enterprise supply chains only, SDL Trados Studio Express allows users to work seamlessly with SDL WorldServer, while benefitting from the powerful functionality of Studio to increase translation speed and quality.

The SDL Trados Studio Express is ideal for the translator who works exclusively within the enterprise supply chain. This version is not designed to work as a standalone tool and so is not able to open normal Studio project packages or single documents. SDL Trados Studio Express can only open a package created by SDL WorldServer.

What is the enterprise supply chain?
By enterprise supply chain, we are referring to our customers who use SDL WorldServer as their translation software.

Who is SDL Trados Studio Express useful for?
SDL Trados Studio Express is ideal for translators who work uniquely with projects created by enterprise supply chain software (SDL WorldServer) and wish to benefit from the innovative and powerful user interface of SDL Trados Studio.

What is the difference between SDL Trados Studio Express, SDL Trados Studio Starter and SDL Trados Studio Freelance editions?
We have created different versions of SDL Trados Studio for different user groups and requirements. SDL Trados Studio Freelance is the full version of SDL Trados Studio which can be used by freelance translators to translate any file type. SDL Trados Studio Starter edition allows opening of SDL Trados Studio packages as well as individual files but with a translation memory limitation of 5000 units. Studio Express only opens SDL WorldServer packages.

Can I upgrade from SDL Trados Studio Express to the full freelance version?

What are the limitations of SDL Trados Studio Express?
  • SDL Trados Studio Express: can only open Enterprise (SDL WorldServer) project packages (it cannot open normal Studio project packages or create packages)
  • SDL Trados Studio Express: cannot open single documents
  • SDL Trados Studio Express: cannot create projects, open local projects, open remote projects, or publish remote projects
  • SDL Trados Studio Express: does not allow AutoSuggest List Creation (although it can use AutoSuggest lists as part of packages)
  • SDL Trados Studio Express: does not allow PerfectMatch, Custom Task Sequences or TM Admin
SDL Trados Studio Express has some additional capabilities when compared to SDL Trados Studio Starter Edition. SDL Trados Studio Express:
  • Can run on a corporate domain-based network (So that in-house translation teams as well as freelance translators can use it for SDL WorldServer projects) 
  • Supports all languages (not restricted to five)
  • Can run third-party plug-ins
Like Starter Edition, there is no Translation Units (TU) limit when working on packages. Starter Edition can open Studio packages, but Express cannot.
 
How do I get my promotional code?
Customers who have purchased SDL WorldServer are eligible to pass on a discount off the subscription price for SDL Trados Studio Express to a limited number of their translators. This discount is provided through a promotional code that is entered at the time of ordering the software. If you are a translator, please contact your SDL WorldServer client to obtain your promotional code. If you are an SDL WorldServer customer and believe you are eligible for a promotional code, please contact your client services representative.

Looking for SDL WorldServer Desktop Workbench?

SDL Trados Studio Express is the new way to work within the SDL WorldServer translation supply chain.

For those customers who have been using SDL WorldServer since version 9.x, Desktop Workbench will continue to be available until 31st March 2012 via our Technical Support team. After this date, Desktop Workbench will no longer available. SDL Trados Studio should be used to work with SDL WorldServer translation packages.
