SDL, the leading provider of Global Information Management (GIM) solutions is pleased to announce that Alan Sloan has joined SDL to become CEO of its Language Technologies division, a new position created in response to the significant growth of SDL’s language technology solutions. Alan Sloan will report into Mark Lancaster, CEO and Chairman of the SDL Group.
As SDL’s research, development and support investments have increased over the past 5 years, it considers a dedicated CEO of the Language Technologies business unit will provide additional focus to the Language Technologies community going forward. This will provide dedicated and independent management to one of SDL’s key divisions of the business.
The overriding objectives for appointing a CEO to SDL Language Technologies are as follows:
SDL has multiple product solutions and thorough domain expertise in professional services, providing 41 out of the top 50 global brands with extensive and integrated solutions. SDL plans to increase its consulting in this area, creating sophisticated translation management solutions across the supply chain from desktop to enterprise
SDL’s Language Technologies division now has a considerable install base with over 170,000 desktop products in the market and over 400 enterprise installations
Continued investment in Research and Development, allowing SDL to deliver innovative industrial strength solutions
Complete alignment of all functions supporting SDL’s position as the de facto standard and benchmark for the Language Technologies solutions in the industry

Alan Sloan was a board level executive at Macro 4 plc, where he successfully ran a £30m P&L as Chief Operating Officer. Prior to his time at Macro 4, Alan was head of business development in EMEA for Sequent Systems and also held the role of head of professional services in his time at Sequent. Alan started off his business career at ICL as a systems engineer after gaining a BSc in Applied Physics. Throughout his career, Alan has created operational efficiencies and has a proven track record of commercial achievement.
