SDL Scales Technology Business To Meet Growing Demand

Maidenhead , United Kingdom
01 August 2006

SDL International, the leading provider of global information management (GIM) solutions, announced today the performance of SDL TRADOS Technologies, the independent subsidiary technology division of SDL, responsible for all technology sales to corporations, language service providers (LSPs) and the translation community. One year on from the completion of the acquisition of TRADOS, Inc, SDL TRADOS Technologies has achieved 41% growth in revenues and 33% growth in units, with over 50% of all sales going to new customers.

Sales in server technologies - that utilize web architectures accessing centralized translation assets - have grown by over 230%. The massive move towards centralization by Corporations and LSPs is a sign of continuing maturity of the market, with centralized data management being a key factor to ensure that high quality products and services reach global markets more quickly.

SDL has also seen a significant increase in demand for hosting services in the past year. To support this growth, SDL is migrating its hosting facility in Sheffield, UK, which already manages billions of words through hosted deployments of its industry-leading SDL Translation Management System and SDL GXT, to Carrenza, an independent third-party partner that provides secure and high-performance hosting facilities. Customers will benefit from 100% data integrity and security, together with high levels of data availability that the high quality ISPs provide.

As we move into 2007, SDL will continue to deliver software as a service technology, integrated into the GIM ecosystem, for LSPs and Corporations that struggle with the up-front capital investment and support required for enterprise solutions.

“We haven’t even begun to scrape the surface of the potential market for translation technologies, as evidenced from the tremendous growth we’ve experienced in the past year alone,” said Keith Mills, President of Technology at SDL. “Equally, the dramatic increase in server technology usage demonstrates growing acceptance of the value of adopting a global information management strategy that maximizes reuse of translation assets. With over 150 installations of our Enterprise Technology, the market is recognizing the clear return on investment from GIM solutions that address inefficiencies and complexities at every stage of the production lifecycle.”
