SDL Announces New Global Information Management Applications

Delivers enterprise innovations to orchestrate global content supply chains

Maidenhead , United Kingdom
26 January 2006

SDL International, a leader in the emerging market for global information management (GIM) solutions, announced today the latest releases of its enterprise GIM applications, SDL Translation Management System 2006 and SDL TeamWorks 2006. Delivering on SDL’s roadmap, the open platform capabilities and customer-driven innovations offer customers even greater flexibility to orchestrate their global content supply chains.

SDL GIM solutions manage content throughout the entire global information lifecycle – from authoring through content management to on-line and off-line publishing across world markets.  With over 100 installations of its enterprise software, most recently into GlaxoSmithKline, Honda, National Instruments, Siemens, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), Linde, Plantronics, QUALCOMM and VWR, SDL has become the clear standard for enterprise GIM solutions.

SDL Translation Management System and SDL TeamWorks are key applications for GIM solutions, unifying the translation and localization supply chain and linking multiple vendors to provide the collaboration, control, integration and process flow required to prepare content for a global audience. Combining enterprise scalability with the flexibility to precisely address customers’ needs, the new releases integrate SDL and TRADOS technologies to deliver the best of both worlds.

Today, SDL products are in use across the entire global content supply chain, exceeding 100,000 desktop users and millions of Web users worldwide. Whether working online or offline, all participants can now leverage the same standard technologies and have access to the same standards-based translation assets, such as translation memory and terminology. SDL GIM applications further protect those assets with full support for key content standards such as XML, DITA, TMX and XLIFF.

SDL Translation Management System 2006 delivers new capabilities for enterprise administration and integration, including LDAP for user authentication, enhanced Web services and richer metadata support to facilitate greater process automation.  Also included is interoperability with SDLX 2005.1, SDL TRADOS 7.1 for translation memory and SDL MultiTerm 7.1 for terminology management and enhanced standards support for processing DITA-compliant XML.

SDL TeamWorks 2006 delivers enhanced performance, scalability and usability, and adds innovative editing and review capabilities in an easy-to-use browser-based environment, as well as a new QA verification plug-in framework. Also included is simplified vendor interaction through a new browser-based vendor portal and integration with the latest SDL TRADOS 7.1 and SDL MultiTerm 7.1.

Keith Mills, President, Technology Division, SDL International, explains: “We have achieved another major milestone in our roadmap by integrating SDL and TRADOS technologies to deliver global information faster.  The new enterprise capabilities help our clients to generate increased global revenues, reduce process overheads and enhance their customers’ satisfaction.  With today’s announcement, we are extending our market leadership in GIM applications.”

Explaining the benefits of SDL TMS, Shannan Kurz, Global Internet Marketing, AMD, adds: “AMD is continually looking for innovative ways to make our Internet marketing campaigns sizzle with regional content for our global visitors and customers.  To keep up with the pace of change for our global Web sites, we are optimizing our project management and content supply chain using outsourced and in-house processes managed by the SDL Translation Management System.  This gives us the flexibility to automate or outsource part or all of the process to achieve faster time-to-market for our global content.”
