Air Canada Selects SDL International's SDLX for Translation Memory

SDLX Saves Time and Costs for Organizations Mandated by Law to Provide Bilingual Documentation

Maidenhead , United Kingdom
19 November 2001

SDL International (London Stock Exchange: 'SDL'), a leading globalization products and solutions company, has announced another new customer using SDLX® to save time and costs on high volumes of document translation. As a Canadian bilingual corporation, providing documentation both in French and English, Air Canada has selected and implemented SDLX for all its translation projects.

"Air Canada publishes a wide variety of materials for training, corporate, customer and employee communications. Producing documentation in two languages became an enormous exercise," stated Louise McEvoy, linguistic services manager at Air Canada. "SDLX was easy to learn, intuitive and rich with features. As we program it to automatically find and insert previously translated material, we anticipate cutting down on actual translation time and increasing overall productivity."

SDLX is an innovative, user-friendly Computer Aided Translation tool that enables translators, localization agencies and major global corporations to increase efficiency by re-using previously translated phrases and terms as well as generating first-pass translations instantly. The re-use of previous, human-quality translations typically saves up to 40% of translation volume over time, and leads to as much as 40% savings in cost.

"SDL is pleased to provide Air Canada with a sophisticated solution enabling them to meet their commitments towards their employees and comply with government regulations," said Hedley Rees-Evans, Marketing Director of SDL International. "In the pluralistic, global markets of today, one language is clearly not enough when it comes to business communications. SDLX is the starting point for eliminating these language barriers – and saves you money in the process!."
