Mark Lancaster

Mark Lancaster

Executive Chairman

Mark Lancaster founded the Group in 1992 after having identified the need for a high-level and comprehensive service and technology provider for the globalization of companies content and products. He studied electrical engineering and computer architectures at Hatfield University before becoming a software design engineer at Satchwell Control Systems and Lotus Development Corporation  and later became international development director at Ashton-Tate. He is responsible for the strategic direction and development of the Group.

John Hunter

John Hunter

Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Hunter is a Chartered Management Accountant and joined SDL in September 2008. Prior to this he held a number of senior financial and management positions in Europe, Asia and the US within the ICI group. Most recently he was the Chief Financial Officer of ICI Paints, a leading global decorative business.

Mr. Hunter's previous roles have embraced evolving global organisations where the emphasis has been on developing structure and systems, with strong support to commercial operations and the strategic direction of the business.

Matthew Knight

Matthew Knight

Chief Financial Officer

Matthew took a BEng in Mechanical Engineering at Imperial College in 1993. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales and qualified with Deloitte in 1996. Matthew has extensive experience of the software and services industry and worked for Logica PLC where he held a variety of UK and international roles - most recently Northern & Central Europe Chief Financial Officer.

Joe Campbell

Joe Campbell

Non-Executive Director

Mr Campbell was CEO of TRADOS, Inc., and following its acquisition by SDL, he has joined the SDL board as a non-executive director.  He adds a considerable level of expertise in enterprise software sales and US market knowledge. 

Mr Campbell also brings years of experience with the US financial markets and M&A activity.  Most recently, prior to TRADOS, he was COO of iManage, a publicly traded company on the NASDAQ.  In his tenure, he helped lead the company in obtaining significant growth in revenue, profit and shareholder value, which ultimately lead to the sale to Interwoven.

Jane Thompson

Jane Thompson

Non-Executive Director

Jane Thompson is co-founder of Hayfield Group, a market-leading executive coaching business specializing in working with senior management primarily in FTSE 100 companies. Prior to establishing Hayfield Group she spent more than 15 years in the City as an equity market specialist with SG Warburg, Société Générale and NatWest Markets. Fluent in German and French, she advised leading European financial institutions on investment strategy and economics. She is a Trustee of Community Links and sits on the Board of the Almeida Theatre.

Chris Batterham

Chris Batterham

Non-Executive Director

Mr Batterham is a qualified Chartered Accountant with significant experience in the IT sector.

Having qualified with Arthur Andersen, he worked for a variety of businesses before joining Unipalm Group plc (now UUNET) as Group Finance Director in 1993. He was involved in the flotation of Unipalm on the London Stock Exchange, and following the acquisition of UUNET by Worldcom he became international development director. He was appointed to the board of SDL on 15 October 1999.

John Matthews

John Matthews

Non-Executive Director

Mr. Matthews has been Chairman of Crest Nicholson plc (the leading housing, property and construction company) since 1996. A Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, he is also Chairman of Media Systems Group Ltd, a supplier of software, advertising and booking systems to newspaper publishers, and acts as an independent director on the boards of three other listed companies, including Regus plc, the world's largest operator of business centers.

David Clayton

David Clayton

Non-Executive Director

After a career in senior executive roles at a number of international technology companies, David joined BZW in 1995 where, after its merger with CSFB in 1997, he was Managing Director and Head of European Technology Research until 2004. He joined the Board of The Sage Group in June 2004 as a non-executive director before taking up the role of Group Director of Mergers and Acquisitions on 1 October 2007.
