Sony Switches On To SDLX and SDLWorkFlow

Replaces existing technology to shorten time-to-market and reduce costs

SDL International, the world’s leading provider of translation services and technology solutions, announced today that Sony Europe is migrating to SDL’s technology platform to improve translation productivity, reduce errors and lower software licensing costs. It has selected SDLX™ to replace its existing translation memory tool and will use SDLTermBase™ Online and SDLWorkFlow™ integrated with SDLX to achieve higher quality and greater automation.

Sony Europe was looking to spend less time on manual, repetitive tasks and to reduce the number of documents being sent by email. Keeping track of translation status was error prone and its translation assets were not being fully leveraged. The SDL products more closely matched Sony’s business requirements than any other products it evaluated and at lower software licensing and maintenance costs.

“Our existing translation memory tool was not correctly handling formatted segments, and the software costs had substantially increased over a five-year period,” commented Salomé López-Lavado, Manager of Translation Services at Sony Europe. “We switched to SDL technology because we will achieve greater automation and faster turnaround time, and because of its support for standards such as XML and TMX*. We expect our improved translation quality and productivity will yield 100% ROI in just 20 months.”

“Sony Europe found the modern architecture and superior functionality of our products met its translation needs at a more affordable price than our competitors,” added Terry Lawlor, Vice President Worldwide Marketing at SDL International. “Our support for industry standards enables organizations like Sony to easily migrate to SDL and take advantage of the increased productivity delivered by our software.”
