SDL Desktop Products announces 85% growth in 2004

Strength of SDLX product range endorsed by record number of customers

Stuttgart , Deutschland
24 February 2005

SDL Desktop Products, a division of SDL International, the world’s largest provider of language translation software and solutions, today announced 85% year-on-year increase in revenues for 2004, with over 10,000 new product units across all markets.

In particular, sales to corporations increased by 107% and to translation companies by 122%. Sales targets were exceeded in all the major geographies of Asia, Europe and the Americas.

SDL Desktop Products accelerated significant market share growth in 2004 by responding to customer needs with numerous new product announcements, continued leadership in standards development and support, enhanced customer support services and new localized versions for growth markets such as China.

“We have invested heavily to make sure that our products continually meet and exceed customer expectations,” explained Keith Laska, General Manager of SDL Desktop Products. “One of the most powerful differentiators of SDLX, our flagship translation memory tool, is its ergonomic design, enabling translators to be more productive. This design permits multiple file format editing, which allows rapid cross file format leveraging while providing tag protection, removing the standard 20% additional engineering time normally required to repair corrupted tagging information. The introduction of enhancements such as a terminology QA check, Mac-based Quark file support, TMX Certification* and the ability to integrate seamlessly with Enterprise systems such as online terminology and multilingual workflow management extends our leadership over the competition and sets the stage for continued exponential growth.”

Laska continued, “Leading this exponential growth are companies who are quickly adopting content management systems and relying on XML as their primary file format for translation. XML (Extensible Markup Language) is a file format that is increasingly becoming more common. Because of SDLX’s adherence to open standards and reliance upon more modern technology, it can handle the translation of XML files much more effectively than older products on the market.”

With new and existing corporations such as Atlas Copco, Siemens, Gerber, Dell, Canon, Royal Bank of Canada, Sony, Computer Associates and Sysmex converting to SDLX, as well as thousands of translation companies and freelance translation professionals worldwide, SDL Desktop Products is on course to become the world’s preferred choice for translation memory software.

SDL Desktop Products will be introducing a new breed of technology automation in the spring of 2005, allowing users to automate many of the previously manual tasks surrounding project management and at the same time providing centralized data management with integrated online collaboration. In addition to new technology, SDL Desktop Products will soon be launching a high profile conversion program, to allow companies to switch to SDLX from older translation memory software tools in a seamless way to increase their productivity and reduce costs.
