SDL Desktop Products - a division of SDL International, the world’s largest provider of language translation software - announced today the release of SDL XLIFF for direct import of XLIFF files into SDLX. As well as becoming the first translation memory tool in the industry to provide XLIFF 1.1 support, SDLX was also the first to achieve TMX* Certification, and has just become TMX 1.4b Certified.
XLIFF, which stands for XML Localization Interchange File Format, is an XML-based format that supports and enhances the localization process. The format enables the exchange of localization data between participants throughout a translation project by utilizing XML’s ability to mark-up data using specific elements and attributes.
“SDL has always been a supporter of open standards within the industry,” said Keith Laska, General Manager of SDL Desktop Products. “With SDL XLIFF, SDLX is the first translation memory tool to provide XLIFF 1.1 support, further enabling our customers who have adopted XLIFF to enhance their localization processes by speeding up project creation time, and by decreasing costs through a reduction in potential filter and translation errors. As an open standard, XLIFF also provides corporations, translation companies and freelance translators with the security that they are not locked into proprietary software because the standard format allows them to freely transfer files between applications.”
“In addition, we are proud to announce that SDLX has achieved TMX 1.4b Certification, which is the next iteration of the translation memory industry standard format. TMX 1.4b now includes SRX, the standard format for storing and making your segmentation rules publicly available. This means that SDLX memories exported in TMX format are even more transferable between applications and further improves interoperability between tools.”
With significant gains in market share in the past few years, and major investment in supporting future technologies such as XML, SDLX is quickly becoming the industry’s preferred translation memory software.
