Professional Services Consultant

Professional Services consultants at SDL are responsible for designing and creating the technical architecture and application configurations/customisations needed to make SDL solutions successful in enterprise application environments.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Work with customers to facilitate the delivery of projects and be the main point of contact onsite at customer locations.
  • Plan and implement the technical component of SDL enterprise solutions.
  • Understand the client’s situation, goals, and requirements.
  • Deploy & configure customer-specific solutions based on SDL technology.
  • Develop and deploy pilot projects, implementation projects, system integration projects.
  • Maintain deep knowledge and understanding of SDL and of methodologies, processes, and solutions.
  • Deliver outstanding customer service.
  • Ensure the client takes advantage of SDL best practices.
  • Provide project guidance during customer implementation.
  • When requested/necessary conduct training sessions and deliver consulting services at the customer site.
  • Play a major role in developing our consulting practice.
  • Demonstrate competency in the SDL Product suite: TMS, MultiTerm, SDL Global Authoring Management System, TM Server, Synergy Server, SDLX and Trados 2007.

The key tasks and responsibilities of a consultant within Professional Services revolve around the efficient and successful delivery of customer projects.

Key tasks for this are:

  • Represent SDL in a professional manner for all customer engagements, be it onsite or remotely.
  • Configure the SDL solution set to work according to customer needs or agreed statements of work.
  • Provide advice and guidance to customers on best practices and the SDL technology portfolio.

Tools Used: The tools below are typically used by a consultant in the fulfilment of their role in SDL Professional Services:

  • Empower (Internal Timesheet & Project Budget Mechanism).
  • MS Project
  • MS Visio
  • MS Office Suite
  • Test Track Pro (Product Issues Submissions).

Previous Experience: SDL are looking for candidates with the following experience and skills:

  • Knowledge of Internet technology and operations.
  • Ability to thrive in a small project team environment (1 – 2 person teams).
  • Previous experience with a major systems integrator and/or an enterprise software company a plus.
  • Project Management experience a plus.
  • Previous service sales experience a plus.
  • Successful candidates have a balance of functional (business) and technical experience.
  • Ability to travel up to 75%.
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems onsite or remotely.
  • A consulting role within a software or IT based company or just completed a degree in an equivalent role in computer development/solution design.
  • Working knowledge with at least one of the following business areas:
    • Content Management systems and processes.
    • Localisation process.

Ideally the candidate will have an understanding the following technologies:

  • Internet Technologies
  • IIS/Apache
  • Windows Operating systems
  • XML
  • RDBMS Technology

This job is expected to be split between office and onsite location work. There will also be potential to travel to other SDL offices located around the Globe. This person must have the ability to travel as part of that and must have a valid visa or passport for the following countries:

  • United Kingdom
  • USA
  • Germany, Holland, Belgium
  • Other EU countries

Candidate must be fluent in French or Dutch and English.
