As Germany leads worldwide export markets for three years running, vast majority of German and Swiss-based corporate translation departments rely on SDL TRADOS technology for cost and efficiency savings

SDL, the leading provider of Global Information Management (GIM) solutions, announced massive technology growth in the German markets for the year ended 31 December 2007. Revenue and server / SaaS installations within corporate language departments increased three-fold due primarily to growth of translation requirements from Germany's leadership position as the world's largest exporter.

Over the past 20 years the SDL Trados Business Unit of SDL, founded in Germany, has established itself as the leader in translation technology. During the past two years alone SDL Trados has added over 2,000 corporate translation management customers to its customer base in Germany and Switzerland. Customers range from small to medium business through to large Enterprises looking to expand their markets and create a global footprint with the adoption of SDL's Global Information Management (GIM) technology.

Additionally, SDL TRADOS added over 150 new Language Service Providers (LSPs) in the German Markets to its customer base, as LSPs required guaranteed compatibility with corporate customers relying on the SDL Trados translation supply chain. Over 10,000 LSPs worldwide have partnered with SDL TRADOS to deliver market-leading technology solutions to their corporate customer base. Professional translators in Germany and Switzerland posted a 312% increase in license adoption. SDL TRADOS solutions are used by almost 200,000 customers worldwide, providing companies with guaranteed compatibility with almost every user of translation technology in the industry, and ensuring 100% reuse of corporate translation assets through the extended translation supply chain.

Commenting on the use of SDL Trados translation technology, Mr. Thomas Hecht, (Head of Translation Services Technology of Siemens Industry Automation Division), said: "We're focusing our process, productivity and quality improvement measures on Translation Workflow Automation in combination with a mixture of internal translation teams and external translation partners. SDL's GIM technology is critical for our business efficiency. In today's business world, users do not have issues opening an Adobe® PDF file, or a Microsoft® Word file. Equally, SDL Trados solutions are the standard in the industry, you do not need to worry about compatibility or loss of intellectual property value if you are working with SDL Trados editors, QA plug-ins and databases."

Sigrid Bleker, Manager of Translations and International Coordination at Hans Turck GmbH & Co KG, said "The implementation of SDL Trados Technologies enables us to ensure consistent terminology as well as deliver global content faster and more cost-effectively into global markets. SDL Trados Technologies' GIM (Global Information Management) strategy supports us in achieving our corporate objectives."

Daniel Brockmann, Senior Product Manager for SDL Trados in Stuttgart, has been working for SDL Trados for over 14 years. He commented: "It is a great privilege for me to have been a part of the rise of SDL Trados in becoming the de facto global standard for translation technology. Seeing such growth rates in my local market is just another proof of this and adds to the impressive SDL Trados success story."

SDL develops a full range of Global Information Management (GIM) solutions from authoring through to translation memory, terminology management and publishing. SDL's solutions assist customers in creating and maintaining brand identity and reducing time-to-market for global, consistent content. Ultimately, customers can not only increase revenue but also improve user experience.

The latest addition to this successful range is SDL Trados 2007 Service Pack 2 (SP2), the market leading translation memory software, which is now available as a free download for all existing users of SDL Trados 2007. Those customers, who do not yet own SDL Trados 2007, will automatically receive SDL Trados 2007 SP2 when they purchase a full license or an upgrade. To find out more please visit www.sdl.com.
