SDL Delivers on Customer Promise with SDL TRADOS and SDLX Interoperability

New releases further unify the GIM supply chain and demonstrate SDL’s commitment to Best of Both Worlds Promise

SDL International, a leader in the emerging market for global information management (GIM) solutions, announced today the first interoperability versions of its leading Translation Memory products, SDL TRADOS 7.1 and SDLX 2005 SP1. These new releases come just five months after the acquisition of TRADOS, Inc. and demonstrate SDL's ability to unify the GIM supply chain while continuing to deliver customer-driven innovation.

Leading the list of extensive interoperability features is support for SDLX’s native ITD Translation Format in SDL TRADOS 7.1. This allows for seamless connectivity to and smooth integration with SDL Translation Management System, the GIM application that provides the collaboration, control, integration and process flow for accelerating global content delivery. SDLX 2005 SP1 users also benefit from improved support for SDL TRADOS TTX files and both products have been enhanced to improve translation memory (TM) exchange using the industry-standard TMX format.

The interoperability releases also include new customer-driven innovations for creating, cleansing and maintaining high-quality translation memories and termbases, enabling all organizations in the GIM supply chain to maximize the value leveraged from these global assets. With the integration of SDL MultiTerm into SDLX 2005 SP1, all users can work from the same centralized termbase, and, for the first time, SDLX 2005 SP1 users can search terms via fuzzy-matching. SDL TRADOS 7.1 users now benefit from automated terminology checks, which ensure correct terminology usage in source and translated material, and the ability to add comments against a TM segment, which dramatically improves collaboration in the translation review process.

SDL TRADOS 7.1 also inherits an extraordinary list of new file support, including InDesign CS2, QuarkXPress for Mac, Java Properties and Generic Delimited Text files. SDLX 2005 SP1 users benefit from new file filters that include SDL TRADOS Word filter, InDesign CS2 and support for .NET formats.

Commenting on the releases, Mark Lancaster, CEO of SDL International said: “When we completed the acquisition, we promised our customer base a greater level of flexibility with our technology solutions to help meet their Global Information Management needs. We also promised that the result of our efforts would be a best of both worlds approach where users of SDL technology can benefit from a combination of SDLX and SDL TRADOS features. This interoperability release is just the first in a series of steps SDL is taking towards delivering on our customer promise and helping to unify the GIM supply chain.”

Both SDL TRADOS 7.1 and SDLX 2005 SP1 are available free, for a limited time period, to any customer who purchased a license of SDL TRADOS 7 or SDLX 2005.
