Mercury Optimizes Web Localization Processes With SDL

Speeds Time-To-Market for 26 Global Web Sites by Migrating to SDLWorkFlow

SDL International, the world’s leading provider of translation services and technology solutions, announced today that Mercury Interactive Corporation, the global leader in business technology optimization (BTO) has migrated to SDL’s translation management system, SDLWorkFlow™ 2004, to optimize Web localization processes for its 26 global Web sites.

Mercury was looking for a cost-effective and flexible platform for translation management to support expansion of its global Web sites with added content and additional languages. SDLWorkFlow was selected for its proven performance and ease of use in managing the localization of large amounts of content in multiple formats undergoing frequent changes.

The transition to SDLWorkFlow enabled Mercury to integrate its existing content management system quickly and efficiently. Using SDLWorkFlow, Mercury optimized the translation and review processes to gain easy, real-time access to the business metrics needed for continued process improvements.

The Web-based, modular architecture of SDLWorkFlow provides Mercury with the flexibility to quickly deploy the system to all interested parties across the business, while ensuring all translation assets are fully leveraged. Mercury is using the SDLWorkFlow translation portal to extend the system to infrequent users so that other marketing content, such as newsletters and brochures, can leverage the translation memory and terminology built up for the Web sites.

“With SDLWorkFlow, Mercury was able to accelerate the re-launch of 26 global Web sites in an efficient manner,” said James Ingalsbe, web globalization manager at Mercury. “Since implementation we have reduced time-to-market and achieved simultaneous global announcements. In addition, we are leveraging this investment across other areas of our business and have received a 75 percent return on our investment in the eight months since implementation.”

“Mercury recognized the need to move to an XML-based platform with the flexibility to cater to different types of users working both online and offline,” commented Terry Lawlor, vice president worldwide marketing at SDL International. “SDLWorkFlow 2004 provides centralized translation memory and terminology that can be leveraged across all types of work. Its ease of implementation and easy-to-use interface helped Mercury achieve a rapid return-on-investment.”

James Ingalsbe will be a guest speaker on the SDL International web seminar “Global Marketing - Streamlining Your Translation Processes” on March 23rd at 9am PST.
