Gua Africa

Providing education to children and young adults who would otherwise be denied such an opportunity.

Gua Africa

SDL_Foundation_Gua-Africa_368px_Gua Africa is a Sudanese organisation working with individuals, families and communities to help them overcome the effects of war and poverty and provide education to children and young adults who would otherwise be denied such an opportunity.
Initially founded by Emmanuel Jal, a professional recording artist, Gua Africa’s mission is to get young adults into education when they have been denied that opportunity.
Southern Sudan are at the bottom of the education World Rankings for both primary and secondary schools, but there has been a big push on projects in South Sudan and Kenya to improve the facilities and also the quality of teaching.

Truly life changing support

GuaTeacherTraineesThe first five refugees sponsored by the SDL Foundation have just graduated from university.
Richard Delanty, VP Sales and Operations APAC, was already supporting the charity on a personal basis when he introduced The SDL Foundation to Gua Africa in 2010. The Foundation agreed to fund a four-year teacher-training programme, which has seen five young refugees from South Sudan undertake a degree level university course in Nairobi, Kenya. The grant has covered their tuition fees, text books and the cost of accommodation.
Unfortunately due to the current political crisis in South Sudan the teacher graduates are unable to return home to teach. However thanks largely due to the support of SDL Foundation three of the five teachers are going to a refugee camp in Kenya that borders South Sudan to teach for one year. The remaining two have found work elsewhere in Kenya and Uganda.
The SDL Foundation’s support over the years has also helped Gua Africa build a much needed new website, which will help the charity to further expand its fundraising.
